Travertine is an extremely durable and versatile natural stone. One of the unique features of Travertine is the way in which it is made…Travertine is formed by the precipitation of calcium in hot springs and/or limestone caves. Although it is labeled a natural stone, it is very different from marble and granite, as it possess tiny holes that are caused by carbon dioxide evasion. Pretty neat, stuff huh!

Since travertine comes in many colors including: silver, ivory, beige, tan, brown and gold, you can pair this material with any color house. Are you worried about a uniform look? Don’t be! travertine is available in an array of sizes including but not limited to,  12x12, 16x16, 18x18 and 24x24. The most common travertine pattern we see laid is the French pattern. Made of multiple sizes including 8x8, 8x16, 16x16 and 16x24. This pattern is extremely popular and perfect for outdoor patio spaces.

Another key feature that keeps travertine as a front runner for patio materials is its non-slip surface. The tiny holes that are naturally part of travertine’s face easily retains any water that is pushed to the surface. This quick absorption makes it difficult for water to puddle, making slipping less of a concern.
